The Coquihalla Canyon is one of the most spectacular destinations of your First Blood tour.  The cliff scenes were filmed at the Othello Tunnels on the old Kettle Valley Railway Line that used to provide passage from Hope to the interior of British Columbia.  The Othello Tunnels were built in 1916 and named by Andrew McColluch, the Chief Engineer, who was responsible for the design and construction of these magnificent tunnels.  Due to the difficulty and cost of maintaining the railway in the Coquihalla division of the KVR it was shutdown and the last train ran over it on November 23, 1959 just 43 years after it was first opened.  Coquihalla Canyon became a provincial park in 1986 and is now a very popular tourist destination.  The  parking fee is three dollars for the day and the tunnels are a short walk away.  For more information on the Kettle Valley Railway, my cousin Hector Turner from Ontario, Canada has put together a very informative website dedicated to the former Railway.  Don’t forget to pack a lunch!

Text Box: COQUIHALLA CANYON

Walk through the first tunnel, look up, and you’re at the spot where Rambo jumps from the cliff.

Teasle and the posse in the  Gorge

Please be cautious when climbing down to the riverbed…

Same location as above except look down and to the left.

Down in the Gorge (note the second and third Othello tunnels))

How to get there?

THE RAMBO CLIFF

Walk through the second tunnel, look immediately to your right and you’ll see where the famous Rambo tree that Stallone fell from used to be. This is also the same location where Galt falls from the helicopter.  Unfortunately the tree disappeared during a flood in the mid 1990’s.
